Default Is Eli Roth really this much a tool?

I've updated.

This is Eli Roth.

And THIS is what happens when you let him speak.

Quote:
“Look anywhere where there’s no law. What do people do? They go right to killing. It’s something in human nature. Under the right circumstances, anyone can become a killer. When no one’s looking, people have that need inside them to control and torture another human being.”
Right. ok.

The Trooper is as entertaining as a documentary on snow melting.

Did he really just compare the castration scene in Hostel 2 to the shower scene in Psycho?

This guy is an absolute idiot. In all of his interviews, he constantly overhypes his work, explaining how it's revolutionary. The truth is, he's had only one original idea, and that was the concept of Hostel, and he fucked that up to an amazing extreme.

“In ‘Hostel: Part II,’ I wanted an unbelievable climax,” he said. “The last moment of the film needed to be a showstopper – the end all, be all of horror films – with a great kill and one of best endings ever in a horror film.”
You have got to be kidding me Eli!! Well at least you used one word that was appropriate "unbelievable"

This film was completely predictible and just stupid. What man on this planet will look up at a woman and call her a cunt to her face while she's got his dick between a pair of blades from a gardening tool? NONE.

This ending wasn't shocking, it was laughable.

"one of the best endings ever in a horror film" ? not hardly. I can name several horror movies with better endings than Hostel 2. I'll give you 3.

1. Saw
2. Sleepaway Camp
3. Halloween

I don’t think its any secret that I love horror movies. But I hated the first Hostel. So much so that I won’t see the 2nd. The problem with modern day horror movies is that they are all about gore for gore’s sake. Hostel was just a constant barrage of “How can we make this even more disgusting?” Without any real plot. It’s the same problem I had with House of 1000 Corpses. Constantly trying to outdo itself by becoming more and more disgusting. Devils Rejects was a bit better, but still... its one of the reasons I'm not too happy Rob Zombie is redoing Halloween. One of the most perfect horror movies of all time, if you ask me.

Movies like Saw, High Tension, Se7en… I don’t consider those horror movies. Suspense thrillers is probably more accurate. Why? Because they have a plot. And there are gory parts, but they are part of the plot, not the entire movie. I’m one of the few people who appreciates a decent storyline in my scary movies, I guess.

As for killing someone… I think everyone has thought about it honestly. If I could get away with it, I would do it. I know I would. For sport, though? No. There’d have to be a reason. Like an international terrorist or my rich husband has talked about writing me out of his will. The torture part I couldn’t do. That I know I could not do to another human being. I’m not that cruel.

But an assassin? I think that’d be cool.

Um, Hard Candy had a castration scene so amazing, it left ME twisting in my seat. It's been done before, dogg. Certainly not as graphically, but I find the more I can actually see, the less scared I am.

Good article.

Oh, jesus fucking christ. I wonder how the human race managed to survive before the first government convened to establish a basic code of conduct. Magic? The gods? Hilarious ineptitude?

And call me crazy, but it seems like places with laws do a lot more killing than places without laws. It just happens on such a large scale that people stop referring to it as "killing."

I agree, but that's the thing. He thinks everyone secretly wants to "torture and control" other people. That's a little bit out there. I've wondered what it would feel like to stab someone. And I KNOW I'd kill someone if they molested my kid, but torture and control is a bit out there.

Seriously. Give me an Asian horror flick any day over this tripe the studios are trying to pass off as scary.

The thing that pissed me off so much about Hostel was the pseudo-suspense leading up to something. Like, the guy in the chair with his toe in between some garden shears. Scream. Shears. Scream. Shears. Then we don't even see his toe come off. Stupid. If you're going to tease to a cutaway of the violence, you can't build up to it like that.

I thought Hostel was a piece of shit, and I was pissed after we rented it after all the hype. I stayed far away from Hostel Part 2, and Rob's article just proved me right.

Nice job, Rob, funny shit!

Like 'The Audition'? Seriously, The Grudge and The Ring aside, The Audition is one of the scariest little Japanese movies ever made. You will look at these little Fujiyama mammas differently after seeing this, guaranteed. Why can't Roth just shut the fuck up?

The only problem with Audition is the 80 minutes of crap you put up with until you get to the great parts.

There are some great Japanese horror movies that are being remade in English. I'm only hoping they are as scary.

Although nothing's quite as scary as a pasty faced Asian kid.
